IPTV buffering is the most common complaint from Belgian streaming viewers. The good news is that in the vast majority of cases, the cause is identifiable and fixable in under 15 minutes. This guide walks you through every possible cause and the correct fix for each, starting with the most common issues and moving to hardware solutions for persistent problems.
Why IPTV buffering happens
IPTV buffering occurs when your device cannot receive data from the server fast enough to maintain continuous playback. The gap between what has been downloaded and what needs to play next empties, causing the stream to pause and refill. Understanding which part of the chain is causing the delay is the first step to fixing it permanently.
The most common causes of IPTV buffering in Belgium are a weak Wi-Fi signal between your device and router, a congested home network during peak evening hours, an overloaded DNS server slowing down stream requests, insufficient device processing power for high-bitrate 4K streams, and occasionally server-side congestion during major live events.
Step 1 — Test your internet connection speed
Before adjusting any settings, run a speed test on the device experiencing buffering. Visit a speed test site through the browser on that device or use a speed test app. You need at least 25 Mbps for UHD streaming and 50 Mbps or more for stable 4K. If your speed test shows results well above these thresholds, the problem is not your internet service but rather signal delivery to the device.
If your speed test result is lower than expected, the issue may be with your Wi-Fi signal strength, router firmware or your internet provider. Restart your router by unplugging it for 30 seconds and retesting.
Step 2 — Switch from Wi-Fi to Ethernet
Ethernet is the single most effective fix for IPTV buffering. A wired connection eliminates Wi-Fi interference, signal attenuation through walls and competing devices sharing the wireless band. Firestick users can add an Ethernet adapter using a compatible USB-to-Ethernet adapter. Android TV boxes typically have a built-in Ethernet port. MAG boxes and Formuler Z devices both have Ethernet ports and should always be connected via cable for live sports.
If running a cable is not practical, move your device closer to the router and switch to the 5 GHz Wi-Fi band in your device's Wi-Fi settings. The 5 GHz band is faster and less congested than 2.4 GHz in most Belgian homes.
Step 3 — Change your DNS server
Your router's default DNS server may be slowing down stream requests. Switching to a faster public DNS server reduces connection setup time for each stream segment. Open your device's network settings and manually set the DNS to 8.8.8.8 (primary) and 8.8.4.4 (secondary) for Google DNS, or 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1 for Cloudflare DNS.
This change affects only DNS resolution speed and does not redirect your traffic through a third party. Both Google and Cloudflare DNS are privacy-friendly options commonly used across Europe.
Step 4 — Clear app cache
Your IPTV app accumulates cached data over time that can slow down stream switching and channel loading. On Firestick, go to Settings, Applications, Manage Installed Applications, find your IPTV app and select Clear Cache. On Android TV boxes, go to Settings, Apps, find the app and Clear Cache. Restart the app after clearing cache.
On Formuler Z, clearing cache is done from the MyTVOnline app menu or through the Android settings accessible via the Formuler launcher. On Smart TVs, uninstalling and reinstalling the IPTV app has the same effect as clearing cache.
Step 5 — Reduce stream quality temporarily
If buffering persists during a specific channel or event, try lowering the stream quality in your app settings. Most IPTV apps allow switching between auto, 4K, UHD, 1080p and lower quality options within the player. Temporarily dropping to 1080p during a high-traffic live event while keeping other channels at UHD is a practical workaround.
Premium plan subscribers can also try switching to a backup server. Contact our WhatsApp support team and ask for a backup M3U URL. We maintain multiple server clusters for exactly this purpose.
Step 6 — Upgrade your hardware
Older streaming sticks and boxes with limited RAM and slow processors struggle to decode high-bitrate streams without buffering. If your device is more than 3 years old and experiences consistent buffering even with a fast internet connection, an upgrade is likely the most effective solution.
A Firestick 4K Max, an Android TV box with at least 2GB RAM and a 1.5 GHz processor, or a Formuler Z8 all handle 4K streams without strain. The hardware investment typically eliminates buffering completely for users whose internet connection is adequate.
